Textual Analysis - Assessment

The Exorcist - Horror Market Increasing

"The movie which starred Linda Blair as a young girl possessed by an evil spirit was based on the real life story of a thirteen-year-old Lutheran boy from Georgetown, USA.

Roland is believed to have become possessed after his aunt taught him how to use the Ouija board.

It was January of 1949 when the bizarre and terrifying paranormal events began in the boy’s home. Eerie scratching noises bombarded the usually quite residence. Soon after the noises started, Roland’s aunt mysteriously died. But Roland continued using the Ouija Board, only now it was to contact his aunt.
Soon, the noises in the house suddenly shifted into Roland’s bedroom.
The boy’s bed would shake violently, toys and other objects would fly across the room and the scratching sounds escalated.
Frantic with worry, Roland’s mother decided to contact a priest. When the minister visited Roland’s room, the boy started speaking in Latin – a language he had never learnt. He told the priest he was the devil."

Alot of modern films are basing their storylines on 'demonic possession', Paranormal Activity 1/2/3 is an example of this. The demand for gruesome, ghostly horror films see to be increasing.

The Exorcist's background story is quite intriging and describes a previous demonic encounter, wheather this is true or not is a matter of choice as there is no scientific proof that 'demons' exist or not.

After Effects Workshop 2

The Technician set us to work on creating the Teletubbies opening scene this was to expand our knowledge with the timeline effects, like stopping a movement at a certain time or increasing the speed of something that is moving. Also we looked at the tracking of objects; joining two objects together so that they moved in sequence. To show this we joined the rotating sun to the babies face as it moved upwards across the scene. This has greatly inproved my knowledge of After Effects and will show when I come to creating the opening of my final product.

After Effects Workshop

A technician came into lesson the past couple of weeks to teach us how to use After Effects to produce masterpieces. We began by looking at the opening sequence of Anotomy of a Murder (1959) which uses moving effects to show body parts and different objects.

Afterwards we began to create our own images and recreating the opening. To make my piece stand out i used different editable tools, like; Opacity, Rotation, Scale and Movement. The final version of the opening will be uploaded at a later date

The Hangover - Re-creating the opening

We have completed almost all of the filming for the sequence, but the sound quality is not up to scratch due to wind and other factors. We plan to re film those scenes affected and take the audio files from the new footage and switch it with the other footage.
We filmed the opening at Aimee's house in a rural village so that we could do the scene of the guys stranded with their car. Her house was also a prime location for the wedding scene as her garden was large and she had enough chairs/plants.
The cake scene was a struggle for us as we didnt want to spend money on a full scale cake, so we filmed a muffin at the canteen, we then decided this wasnt good enough so Jordan and I re-filmed that scene using our own interpritation, using people workin at the canteen showing that they are getting ready for the wedding.
